NOAA Weather Radio is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the closest National Weather Service office. NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts NWS warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazard information 24 hours a day. More information is available at the NOAA Weather Radio website including coverage maps and receiver information. The NOAA Streaming Audio page includes live broadcasts and audio archives of many transmitter sites. There are 7 frequencies used for NOAA Weather Radio nationwide:

162.400 MHz 162.425 MHz
162.450 MHz 162.475 MHz
162.500 MHz 162.525 MHz
162.550 MHz

SAME:

With a SAME receiver, when an NWS office broadcasts a warning, watch, or non-weather emergency, it also broadcasts a digital SAME code. This may be heard as a very brief static burst depending on the characteristics of the receiver. This SAME data contains the type of message, counties affected, and message expiration time. A programmed SAME receiver will turn on for that message with the listener hearing the 1050Hz warning alarm tone as an attention signal, followed by the broadcast message. At the end of the broadcast message, a brief digital end-of-message static burst followed by a resumption of the broadcast cycle.

You must program your county, parish, independent city, or marine area into the radio. Do NOT program your radio for a stronger or clearer station not designated as a SAME channel for your area. You will not receive alert. Your SAME radio will alert you only of weather and other emergencies for the counties or areas programmed. Receivers without the SAME capability will alert for emergencies anywhere within the coverage area of the transmitter, typically several counties, even though the emergency could be well away from the listener. More information on NWR Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) can be found on their website. It includes how it works, how to program your radio, codes for areas nationwide, and much more.

County Information:

Below are the SAME codes for Cuyahoga County and the surrounding counties. There is one SAME code for each county in the area, but multiple transmit sites may broadcast alerts for that county. In other words, one counties' SAME code will work with any transmit site to the right of that code. Site Name links to NWS signal strength maps, Site Location links to area maps, and Call sign links to live streaming audio broadcasts of the site.
