On May 27, 1969, the last Tuesday of that month, a group of Hams interested in repeaters who had been meeting informally for some time decided to form a new Amateur Radio club - The Lake Erie Amateur Radio Association. Someone mentioned that this new club would need a leader and Bill Hess, K8SGX, volunteered and became LEARA's first President. And thus was born what would become the largest Amateur Radio club in the greater Cleveland area!
For over 50 years LEARA has been providing public service and emergency communications for Northeast Ohio. The club call signs are WB8CQR and WR8ABC. We are an official ARRL affiliated club.
Welcome to our site! Please explore the links to the left and please join us at one of our meetings!
Any and all hams are encouraged to attend our monthly meeting; you do not have to be a member of the club. Non-hams seeking guidance in becoming a ham radio operator are also encouraged to attend.
Items in red are LEARA club events, green are hamfests, and gray are holidays.
